It was an evening of fine entertainment!  Five acts will move on to compete in the second round on June 9th.  Our club members also excelled in the Visual Arts category with six entries chosen.

Ms Ghana 2011 comes to Murraygate Village

May 16, 2012 - Senya Donkor, current title holder of "Ms. Ghana", came to visit Murraygate Village Boys & Girls Club as a guest speaker for Murraygate's weekly Smart Girls Sisterhood Program.  A guest of Program Aide Elizabeth Nath, Senya Donkor came and had a very interactive and engaging conversation with the girls from Murraygate where they talked about the many issues and concerns that conflict with the lives of everyday teenage girls including self esteem, college preparation, peer pressure, and parental relationships.  Murraygate Village is a club where roughly 80% of the members come from first generation Ghanaian immigrants.  This made her visit to Murraygate especially unique for the members of the club because Senya Donkor once lived in the Murraygate Village neighborhood.  Her story and journey is a living example of how you can achieve your dreams and have a positive impact on society no matter your background, race, gender, or socio-economic wealth.   Elizabeth Nath has been working hard the past few months to revamp the Smart Girls program and help to make it more informative for the members.  Past guests have included Chardelle Moore a staff member from the CW network and the fashion model Chantney Renese.  The next upcoming guest will be former America's Next Top Model and social activist Contestant Bianca Chardei.
